Student reviews of the best engineering schools in the USA

In addition to the rankings listed above, we've decided to include several reviews from Engineering alumni to give you a better idea about what's it like to study at one of the best American engineering schools.

Yale University

“Yale is a great place to study because it fosters the interdepartmental exchange between scholars of different fields. The opportunities at Yale are immense. Support exists in every fashion. Facilities and resources are unparalleled. Definitely recommend.”

University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign

“The University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign was a giant university for someone from rural downstate Illinois. Right from day one the university sought to make everyone feel welcomed. The campus may be huge, and the number of students enrolled may have been a lot to some, but I think it added to the school dynamic for the most part.

At times class sizes can be overwhelming and hard for first and second years to feel they can stay afloat. Besides a complaint about some class sizes, my experience was nothing short of amazing. The professors were always willing to help, especially the TA's. There were so many programs and extracurricular activities that you never felt bored or that you didn't have something to do.”

University of California, Los Angeles

“Studying at UCLA was one of the greatest experiences of my life. The academics are rigorous and challenging without the pretentiousness of an Ivy League or private school. I always had quality professors, many of which are making great advances in their respective fields. As the leading research institute in the country, there are many opportunities to get involved with those kinds of opportunities.

The social life is also great. It's the largest UC school in terms of population. There are many social/academic clubs and societies. Definitely a great school. And the location in West LA is perfect. You're only 10 minutes from Santa Monica, 1 minute from Beverly Hills, and 20 minutes from West Hollywood.”
