Overview

This Activate English course at the University of Liverpool is available at most levels of English (Beginners should contact us before applying as we may not have an appropriate class).

It can be studied in the morning and the afternoon. It can also be studied in the morning OR the afternoon.

It has three main parts: in the morning we focus on language development using published materials; in the afternoon, you can continue to improve your English language by working on a project alongside your teachers.  These projects will help you develop your ability to actually use English in practical situations.  A third choice is to prepare for IELTS.

Flexible Study

Activate English is the one of the most flexible courses that we offer within the English Language Centre.

  • If you want to study mornings only, afternoons only or both mornings and afternoons, we can help you.
  • You can choose to study 15 hours a week, 21 hours a week or 6 hours a week.
  • We can offer you start dates throughout the year – with the only conditions being that you must start on a Monday and you must agree to study with us for a minimum of two weeks.
  • Students will have classroom-based lessons, lessons that take place outside the classroom, trips to other cities, group lessons and individual feedback.

Programme Structure

  • It is a very flexible course.  This means that new students join us every week.  Because new students arrive at different times, we do not do exams for everyone.  Instead, we train you in setting yourself realistic language learning goals and helping you to achieve them.
  • Teacher do regular tests with their classes.  These tests will help you to see how well you are learning.  They will also help you to identify what you need to do to improve.
  • Each week, one hour is used for a tutorial.  In this class, the teacher will meet with some students to discuss their learning with them.  The teacher will listen to your views on how well you are progressing and they will offer you their professional evaluation of your development.  They will also give you advice on what you need to do next in order to progress.
