In 1841 in a three-story house on Houston Street on Manhattan's Lower East Side, the Academy of the Sacred Heart, a Catholic boarding school for girls, was founded. The Academy relocated in 1847 to an area just north of New York City on a hill overlooking the village of Manhattanville.
In March of 1917, Manhattanville was chartered as a college by the New York State Board of Regents.

All places newly minted Manhattanville grads have found jobs. But there’s a lot more to the Center for Career Development (CCD) than help wanted listings and job fairs. Students are helped to choose a major, land an internship (we’ve got relationships with more than 350 employers), build a professional network and perhaps explore graduate schools -- leads up to that point when they shake hands and accept a job offer.
The Office of Academic Advising coordinates the College’s advising system and its staff serves as the primary Academic Advisors for all Freshmen and Sophomores at the College. The Office of Academic Advising provides support to students by providing information about academic policies and degree requirements, assisting students in the course selection process, and offering students appropriate support and referrals to other campus services.
Each residence hall offers students spaces to retreat to outside of their rooms. The Office of Residence Life is currently revamping these lounge spaces for students - starting with Tenney Hall which now offers 'Terminal Ten' (an arcade), a study lounge, updated kitchen, movie theater, and Residence Hall Association office.
Conveniently open 24 hours on weekdays, the library provides each student with ample opportunities to study, find readings, and broaden the mind. Every library staff member is here to help students achieve academic success.

The student Health Center is a safe, confidential place where full-time and part-time undergraduate students, as well as resident graduate students can receive comprehensive medical care, referrals, and treatment. The Health Center is staffed by board certified physicians and licensed registered nurses.
