Student services

When you enrol on your programme of study at ONCAMPUS, you will be assigned a Personal Tutor, who is responsible for ensuring you have adequate academic support during your time with us.In addition, your Centre Head, Deputy Centre Head, Student Recruitment and Support Officer, and Curriculum Information Officer are always pleased to be able to help you with any issues you may be having.

Housing services

The University has its own quality purpose-built accommodation, giving you the option of a single study-bedroom in a secure environment. All accommodation is self-catered, with fully equipped kitchens. The accommodation also offers all-inclusive living, which includes heating, lighting and fuel costs in with the rent.

Rent for university accommodation is among the cheapest in the country. Prices per week range from £68 to £80 for a standard room, and £88 to £90 for en-suite rooms.

Outstanding facilities include:

  • Less than 1 minute walk to the station 
  • All utility bills included in rent 
  • Wifi access throughout the property 
  • Study and social spaces, including a cinema room

Campus life

The two outstanding campuses in Sunderland  – one in the city centre and one by the sea, undoubtedly offer some of the best university facilities in the UK, in one of the most beautiful parts of the UK, with Newcastle, Durham and Edinburgh nearby.  

Sports facilities

The new range of sport packages enable students to participate in activities or sessions which suit everyone. The spectacular fitness suite is currently welcoming new members, giving you the chance to join up to one of the North East’s leading facilities. Memberships to the fitness suite are limited and it is therefore advised that anyone wishing to join does so sooner rather than later to avoid disappointment.

Student clubs

The University of Sunderland has more than 50 clubs and societies.

All ONCAMPUS students automatically become Student Union members. The Union exists to make students' experience at University exciting and fun whilst also giving the opportunity to make your opinions about the University heard. The Union provides a network of student support, including:

  • Academic and welfare advice and support
  • Entertainments and social activities
  • Commercial outlets
  • Sports and activities


  • The Business School has accreditation with the Chartered Management Institute (CMI), with many of their undergraduate and postgraduate programmes approved to meet the level 5 and level 7 management standards.
  • Human Resource Management degrees (both undergraduate and postgraduate) are accredited with CIPD (Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development)
  • The University of Sunderland’s journalism courses are accredited by the NCTJ (National Council for the Training of Journalists) and Broadcast Journalism is accredited by the BJTC (Broadcast Journalism Training Council).
  • The MPharm degree is accredited by the General Pharmaceutical Counci
