Teaching Method

All teachers are university graduates qualified to teach English as a foreign language. Many have taught abroad and bring a wide range of academic and life experiences to the classroom. Their focus is on quality learning in a personal, relaxed and friendly atmosphere. ELI training is focused on learner needs and specific courses are custom built. Classes are designed to develop good communication skills through a combination of interactive and structural approaches. English Language Ireland prides itself on the communicative method of teaching.


Host FamiliesEnglish Language Ireland's database is of over 300 host families – all pre-qualified against a very strict Code of Standards (including police clearance) allows us to match the most appropriate families with student preferences, as far as possible. Irish people are friendly and talkative and enjoy welcoming students into their homes and understand the benefits of a totally immersive experience.Self CateringRiverbank Apartments - Purpose built student apartment complex located in the centre of Carlow town overlooking the river Burrin. Its closeness to Carlow Institute of technology and St. Patrick’s College, makes it the ideal location for student accommodation. The complex consists of 36 luxury apartments, comprising of 2, 3 or 4 bedrooms all built to the highest standards and tastefully decorated. Each apartment is equipped with a lounge area and a modern kitchen. A number of rooms are designed for use by students with disabilities.Carlow Accommodation - These are modern family style homes located in Carlow town and maintained to very high standards. All houses are in garden settings providing residents with pleasant outdoor spaces. The duplexes and apartments benefit from open spaces with mature trees set in well maintained green areas and planted spaces. All accommodation has off street parking and is within walking distance of local train and bus stations.Ceatharlach Moorings - Ceatharlach Moorings Self-Catering log chalets are located on the banks of the River Barrow offering a whole range of activities.Guest House - Avlon House Bed and Breakfast stands on its own grounds offering free private off street parking. This guesthouse offers en-suite bedrooms with multi – channel TV, tea and coffee facilities. There are also two lounges – one with a 700 DVD library the other with a large Library.Hotel - The Seven Oaks Hotel is one of the leading hotels in Carlow.


Carlow has great range of sporting and leisure facilities, including a public Swimming Pool, Bowling Centre, Tennis Club, Rugby, Hurling, Gaelic and Athletic Clubs. Cruising, Rowing and Canoeing are also very popular on the Rivers Barrow and Slaney. Two local universities give Carlow a vibrant nightlife throughout the week and with two cinemas and plenty of local activity clubs, community groups and volunteering opportunities, you never have an excuse to be bored in Carlow.
