The University Language Centre has over 30 years’ experience of running English Language courses for international students and these courses are accredited by the British Council through Accreditation UK. The Pre-sessional courses are also accredited by BALEAP (The Global Forum for EAP Professionals). Students are taught in small classes of 16 students or less, and a communicative methodology is used.
The University Language centre also offer courses in a range of modern foreign languages to students, members of staff and members of the public.
English preparation programmes
The University Language Centre offers a range of learning and teaching resources, including a library of multi-format materials in 80 languages; two open-access multimedia studios which support computer-aided language learning and allow viewing over IP and satellite television from around the world.
Students have access to a dedicated Welfare and Accommodation Officer throughout their studies to offer support and assistance with issues such as health and well-being, financial matters and life in Manchester.
Access to the wide range of facilities open to all registered students, such as the Albert Gilbert Learning Commons – a 24/7 environment for study, the Libraries, Student Services Centre.
Students studying from September to June have the option to book Homestay accommodation through the University Language Centre.
Students studying during the summer term have the opportunity to book University of Manchester accommodation. Hall accommodation is self-catered and available with either standard (shared bathroom) or en-suite (private bathroom) facilities.
A full and varied social programme is provided to students through the International Society which includes weekend trips, overnight trips, evening and social events. Being part of the International Society is a great way for students to meet other students from around the world, experience different cultures, practice their English and see as much of Manchester and the UK during their stay.
Students at the University Language Centre will have free membership to the International Society, with two full day-trips per four week study period free of charge.
